Memphis Defeats Salt Lake in Series Opener

The Memphis Redbirds jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they took down the Salt Lake Bees 14-4 in front of a near-sellout Pioneer Day crowd of 13,371 at Smith's Ballpark.

The Memphis offense finished the night with six home runs including two from outfielder Tyler O'Neill who in the process passed Bees Jabari Blash for the PCL lead. Six home runs allowed was a season-high for Salt Lake as Luis Pena (3-3) allowed four runs over three innings, with all four runs coming off three home runs. Outfielder Jared Walsh finished the game on the mound for Salt Lake striking out two

The Salt Lake offense collected 13 hits, but could only convert that into four runs on the night. Taylor Ward snapped out of a mini-slump with a three-for-four night at the plate including a RBI. Luis Rengifo, Michael Hermosillo, Matt Thaiss and Ward combined for 10 of the Bees 13 hits as the top of the Bees order. Thaiss finished with a double and a triple, while Rengifo had two doubles.
