Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

In a stark contrast to game two of the series between the Kannapolis Intimidators and the Asheville Tourists, in the rubber match of the three game series, the Intimidators defended well, pitched well and had a number of timely hits in an 8-1 win on Saturday night inside Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Cameron Bayne started the game and outside of a miscommunication that let a ball drop in the infield for a double and a triple the next hitter in the second inning, put up zeros across the board in six innings in his fifth win of the year. Bayne (5-6) allowed just one run in those six innings, six hits, no walks and two strikeouts. Matt Wickswat earned a save going three innings allowing two hits and striking out five in his second relief outing of the season.

Off Wes Musick (5-4) the Intimidators (30-32) were trailing going into the fourth but exit the inning in a tie game as Ian Gac singled home Rafael Vera from second after he reached on an error. Musick stayed out to pitch through the fifth and ran into trouble in that inning. In the fifth, Musick allowed a leadoff walk to Jose Vargas, a single by Jordan Cheatham and then a two run double by Zach Kayne to take a 3-1 advantage. Kayne reached third on a wild pitch and then scored on a single by Kevin Dubler to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

In the sixth the Intimidators added another run on another RBI hit by Kayne, a single and led by the score of 5-1 going into the eighth. In the eighth the Tourists (26-36) brought in Sheng-An Kuo and he struggled for the second straight night. Kuo allowed a single and then a two-run home run by Gac, his league leading 13th of the season followed by another run on an RBI-single by Cheatham to take an 8-1 lead.

Bayne has won three straight decisions with the win and Gac and Kayne each had three RBI in the ballgame that puts the Intimidators two games below .500 with seven left to play in the first half.

After and off day on Sunday which will be used as a travel day, the Intimidators will take on the Delmarva Shorebirds in a three game series with the game one starter being Justin Collop. The game on Monday will begin at 7:05 from Salisbury, MD. The Intimidators will return home on June 24th to start the second half.
