Suns Dominate RiverDogs 5-3

The Hagerstown Suns (31-32) dominated the Charleston RiverDogs (29-33) 5-3 in the finale of the three-game homestand Saturday evening at Municipal Stadium.

Hagerstown came out strong in the first inning with a home run by Steven Souza to left also scoring Justino Cuevas who reached on a throwing error by the RiverDogs. The Suns took the lead 2-0.

The RiverDogs answered back with a solo home run by Deangelo Mack to left in the top of the second.

Charleston tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fifth after Raymond Kruml reached on a single only to position himself to score after Zoilo Almonte hit a single to center.

In the top of the seventh, Charleston center fielder Raymond Kruml doubled to center. The RiverDogs took the lead 3-2 after Emerson Landoni drove in Kruml with a sacrifice fly.

The Suns did not let that stop them as Adrian Nieto doubled to left with Eury Perez up to bat. Perez hit a single to center bringing in Nieto tying the game 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh.

Hagerstowns bats kept swinging in the bottom of the eighth as first baseman Justin Bloxom hit a solo over the right field fence. JR Higley kept the momentum going after hitting a single to left bringing up designated hitter Brett Newsome. Newsome drove in Higley with a double to center giving the Suns the lead 5-3 which would later be the final.

The Suns starting pitcher Dan Rosenbaum pitched five innings with four strikeouts only giving up two runs. Rob Wort (1-0) got the win coming in the eighth with one strikeout and giving up no runs.

Charleston starting pitcher Josh Romanski pitched seven innings giving up three runs with five strikeouts. Dickson Marquez (0-3) got the loss coming in the bottom of the eighth giving up three hits and two runs.

The Suns will now travel to Asheville, NC to take on the Rockies-affiliated Asheville Tourists in a three-game series at McCormick Field starting Monday.

Hagerstown will return to Municipal Stadium on Thursday, June 24 with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Hickory Crawdads.
