Hickory Crawdads News Release
AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets outlasted the Hickory Crawdads, 3-1, before 3,837 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Saturday night. 3B Matt West led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a single and the lone run scored for Hickory.
The GreenJackets (38-25) opened the scoring with a run against LHP Robbie Ross (8-5) in the bottom of the second, before stretching the lead to 3-0 with two in the fifth. CF Evan Crawford started the inning with a triple and came in on a two-run homer by 2B Kyle Cavan, accounting for the three-run lead.
The Crawdads (36-27) got on the board with a run in the top of the seventh against RHP Jorge Bucardo (6-2). West extended the inning with a two-out double and came in on a fielding error committed by 1B Luke Anders on a ground ball by C Zach Zaneski, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Bucardo dealt 8.2 innings for the GreenJackets, surrendering just the one unearned run on four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts before being chased by a two-out single by West in the top of the ninth. With West on first and two away, RHP Jose Casilla took over on the mound to face Zaneski. Zaneski drove a pitch to deep right-center, but was robbed of a run-scoring extra-base hit by a diving catch from RF Nick Lollis, closing out the 3-1 win for Augusta.
Ross lasted six frames and was tagged with the loss for Hickory, while Bucardo registered the win and Casilla got the save for the GreenJackets.
