Intimidators Complete Sweep with 4-3 Win

Kannapolis, N.C. - The Kannapolis Intimidators used a grand slam home run and solid pitching to defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-3 on Monday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Shorebirds hit multiple homers in a game for the first time since June 6.

In the second inning, the Shorebirds got on the board. Michael Ohlman connected on his fourth homer of the year and first since June 10 to give the Shorebirds a 1-0 lead.

Kannapolis responded in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, Collin Kuhn hit a grand slam home run to vault the Intimidators to a 4-1 lead.

In the third inning, Riley Hornback blasted his second home run of the season to pull the Shorebirds within 4-2.

The Shorebirds trimmed the deficit to one in the fifth. Mikey Planeta hit a leadoff double. Later in the inning, Hornback hit a grounder to second to score Planeta.

The Shorebirds did not score over the final four innings.

Shorebirds starter Tim Berry allowed just four hits over five innings. Reliever Ashur Tolliver tossed three scoreless innings to increase his scoreless innings streak to 16 over his last eight appearances.

Kannapolis starter Matt Heidenreich earned the win over seven strong innings.

The Shorebirds enjoy an off day on Tuesday, August 9 before opening a four-game series against Hagerstown on Wednesday August 10 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. RHP Jake Cowan is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
