LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Kannapolis Intimidators got runs early and often off of Jason Knapp as they cruised to a series split with the Lakewood BlueClaws 8-1. The Intimidators (16-12), using five pitchers, held the BlueClaws (15-12) to just one run.

Things started sour for one of the top prospects in the Phillies organization, Knapp (2-3), as he allowed a walk and a long fly ball that hit the top of the wall and was caught by a fan in the first inning of play. Knapp got out of the inning, but the runs would begin in the second inning for the Intimidators.

Jon Gilmore led the second inning off with a single, followed by a single by Jordan Cheatham and a sacrifice moved the runners. Justin Greene was hit by a pitch, loading the bases before two singles plated four runs and an early 4-0 lead.

Two more runs were scored in the third as back-to-back extra base hits were recorded from Gilmore, a double, and Cheatham, a triple. Both runners scored and it was 6-0 in the third inning. That would be as far as Knapp would go, his shortest outing of the season, as he allowed seven hits and six runs. Jacob Diekman came in the fourth and went five innings, allowing just one run before being taken out in favor of Esmelvin Jiminez. Jiminez allowed three baserunners and the Intimidators eighth run of the game.

The BlueClaws had eight hits but could on muster one run off of starter Stephen Sauer, who only went four innings. Sauer was a reliever-turned spot starter and worked well to get to the fifth inning. The lone run of the night for the BlueClaws came on a single in the third by Travis d'Arnaud plating Korby Mintkin who reached with his first professional hit.

Sauer was relieved by Tyson Corley (1-0) who worked two scoreless innings before single innings by Leroy Hunt and Adam Bowling. The Intimidators, who used relievers all game, used their fifth pitcher in the ninth, Nate Jones. Jones worked a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth.

The BlueClaws are 0-6 in bids to go five games over .500 and they have alternated wins and losses for the last 11 games.

The BlueClaws split the series with the Intimidators 2-2 and remain half-game behind them in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League. The BlueClaws will welcome the Hickory Crawdads to FirstEnergy Park on Saturday for a 4:05 pm start. The BlueClaws will send Heitor Correa (0-1) to the mound for the second time this season and he will face Martin Perez (1-2) in a rematch of a game Perez won last week in Hickory.
