Hagerstown Suns News Release
HAGERSTOWN, MD -- After wrapping up their series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers Friday night at 6:35 p.m., the Hagerstown Suns will host a five-game set against the West Virginia Power - a series that begins Saturday night and includes a Sunday doubleheader starting at 2:05 p.m.
The Suns swept the Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, in a three-game series starting April 30. The series included one rainout, which will be made up as part of the doubleheader this Sunday. Each game of the doubleheader will be a seven-inning contest, with the second game beginning approximately half an hour after the completion of the first game.
Sunday will still be Mother's Day at Municipal Stadium, but as a result of the doubleheader, the Wine Tasting that had been scheduled as part of the post-game festivities has been rescheduled, for a date still to be determined. The Suns' Pizza Hut Post-Game Show has also been cancelled as a result of the twinbill.
All the other regularly-scheduled Sunday promotions will still be in place. A Suns player will still be reading to kids ages 1-7 on the field prior to the game as part of Suns Story Time, presented by the Washington County Arts Council. Also before the game, select Suns players will be available inside the gates to sign their team photos for fans, free of charge, as part of the Suns on Sundays promotion, presented by Pictures Plus. Finally, kids will still be able to head down to the Municipal Stadium field after the game for The Greene Turtle Kids Run the Bases.
The exciting Sunday slate will be preceded by a host of great promotions on Saturday, starting with the annual Hagerstown Suns Free Youth Baseball Clinic, sponsored by Holcim (US). The clinic, for kids ages 14 and under, will take place prior to the game, with registration starting at 8:30 a.m.
The game itself will be a Geico Patriotic Saturday, with the Suns wearing their alternate red, white, and blue jerseys. The Herald Mail will present a Team Photo Giveaway for the first 1,000 fans in attendance, and fans can email info@hagerstownsuns.com prior to the game to sign up for their chance to come on the radio airwaves live as part of the Saturday Night Fan Broadcast.
Following the busy weekend, the Suns will host Feed Your Face Monday on May 11 at 6:35 p.m., presented by WAYZ 104.7. Admission to the game will be $13 for VIP seats and $10 for General Admission seats, with fans receiving unlimited servings of select food items throughout the game as part of the price of the ticket.
The Suns will close out their series against West Virginia, and their homestand, on Tuesday, May 12 with the second Education Day of the 2009 season. Gates will open at 9:05 a.m. in anticipation of a 10:35 a.m. start, and baseball-themed educational activities will take place prior to the game for the local schools in attendance. Schools interested in attending one of the Hagerstown Suns' Education Days -- either on May 12 or May 27 -- can still schedule a trip by contacting Ben Burnett, Suns' Senior Director of Ticket Sales, at 301-791-6266, or by e-mail at benburnett@hagerstownsuns.com.
All Suns fans should also be advised that just two weeks remain to purchase the All-You-Can-Eat Hall of Fame ticket package for the 2009 season. For just $39, fans can receive tickets to the five most-popular Suns' games of the season, with an all-you-can-eat meal included in the price of the ticket. The package also includes a limited-edition Suns hat and t-shirt, and can be purchased by calling the Suns' ticket office at 301-791-6266.
The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals. Visit the Suns on the web at www.hagerstownsuns.com. The Suns are owned by Los Angeles based Mandalay Baseball Properties.
