BYRON BUXTON, Rochester Red Wings     IL BATTER OF THE WEEK
Rochester's Byron Buxton hit .400 over the past week and led the International League with 14 hits,  19 total bases, and seven runs scored while chipping in his first-Âever Triple-ÂA home run and plenty of excitement for the Red Wings.  The player widely considered Minnesota's top prospect made his Triple-ÂA debut August 7 as he battles back from a sprained thumb.  So far he's hit safely in all eleven games he's played with the Red Wings, highlighted by a three-Âhit effort on Sunday against division- leading Scranton/Wilkes-ÂBarre.  After tying the game 2-Â2 with a solo blast in the 5th, Buxton later provided a walk-Âoff single in the 12th to give Rochester a 3-Â2 victory.  Buxton is now hitting .404 as a member of the Red Wings.  21-Âyear-Âold Byron Buxton is in his fourth season playing professionally after being selected second overall by the Twins in the 2012 draft.  MLB.com ranks him as the top prospect in all of baseball.  He made his big league debut in June, seeing action in eleven games with Minnesota before being disabled.  Buxton is a native of Baxley, Georgia.
CHRIS JONES, Norfolk Tides   IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Left-Âhander Chris Jones helped Norfolk continue its push towards the South Division title this week, winning twice and leading the IL with 15.0 innings pitched.  Jones scattered ten hits without allowing a walk over his last two starts while lowering his ERA on this season to 2.85, fifth-Âbest in the League.  His scoreless 8.0-Âinning effort Saturday evening in Louisville marked the longest outing of the season for the former reliever.  It was the 6th inning of that contest before the Bats had their first baserunner against Jones.  His two victories this week improve his record to 8-Â6 while helping the Tides stay  5.5 games in front of the rest of the South Division.Â
26-Âyear-Âold Chris Jones is in his ninth season playing professionally and his third in the Baltimore organization after being traded from Atlanta in April, 2013.  Last season Jones led the Norfolk club with eight victories and was 8th in the IL with a 3.61 ERA.  He has yet to make his Major League debut.  Jones is a native of Tampa, Florida.
