(Pawtucket, RI) - On the day of the Indianapolis 500, the Indianapolis Indians raced out to a big lead thanks to a six-run fourth inning, cruising to an 8-2 victory in the rubber match of a three-game series with the Pawtucket Red Sox in front of a season-high 8,441 fans on Sunday evening at McCoy Stadium.

The Indians (25-23) hit for the cycle in the fourth inning as they batted around against Pawtucket starter Keith Couch (0-2). Meanwhile, Indianapolis starter and top prospect Jameson Taillon (4-2) surrendered only one run on four hits in 6.0 innings of work.

The PawSox (24-26) received excellent relief work from Robby Scott and Anthony Varvaro, who each recorded four strikeouts in a combined 5.1 innings pitched, but the offense could not overcome the deficit.

The first two batters of the game singled against Couch and Adam Frazier tapped an RBI fielder's choice to get the Indians on the board first.

That would start a sequence in which Couch retired eight straight batters until he walked Max Moroff with two outs in the third. Couch then picked Moroff off first base, forcing him into a run-down. Moroff was able to return safely to first base after an injury to Sam Travis, who left the game. Frazier grounded out to end the inning.

Pawtucket responded with a run in the third. Jantzen Witte doubled off the wall in left center and Mike Miller bunted for a single after the second baseman Max Moroff was late covering first, setting up runners on the corners with nobody out.

Indianapolis answered with a rally that tied the largest such frame surrendered by the PawSox all season.

Two batters after a leadoff double, Rhode Island-native Jason Rogers delivered an opposite field home run (1) into the Pawtucket bullpen. Two batters later, Danny Ortiz also lofted a ball the opposite way into the wind and over the left field fence, his sixth home run of the season.

It was the first time all season that the PawSox allowed multiple blasts in a single inning.

Alen Hansen then singled and Pedro Florimon drove him home with a triple to right field. After a walk and a stolen base put two in scoring position, Frazier flared a two-run single to center field to complete the six-run inning, giving the Indians a 7-1 lead.

Pawtucket added a run in the seventh after Chris Dominguez doubled and scored.

But Indianapolis regained the seven-run advantage in the following inning on Josh Bell's solo home run.

The loss snapped a string of three straight home series wins for the PawSox.

Pawtucket went 3-3 on its six-game homestand.

The PawSox fly to Gwinnett tomorrow to open a seven-game road trip with the Braves tomorrow evening at 6:05 p.m. Pawtucket lefthander Roenis Elias (2-3, 4.28) is scheduled to face off with G-Braves righty John Gant (3-0, 2.48). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM) and throughout the PawSox radio network begins at 5:35 p.m.

Pawtucket returns to McCoy stadium next Monday for a seven-game homestand against Toledo and Louisville. Good seats for all the games are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
