Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release

A two-run sixth proved to be the key for Louisville as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (25-24) dropped a 10-6 decision to the Bats (27-22) on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

In the afore-mentioned top of the sixth, Brandon Allen knocked home a run with an RBI double and later scored on a sac fly from Seth Mejias-Brean to give Louisville a 6-5 lead.

The Bats took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first as Carlos Triunfel came through with an RBI double in the frame, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on Steve Selsky's sac fly.

In the home half of the frame, the Pigs put a five spot on the board to open up a 5-2 lead. Cam Perkins delivered the big blow in the inning with a grand slam off of Louisville starter Cody Reed and Darin Ruf (2-4, RBI, R) came through with an RBI single.

Reed (4-2) gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits to go along with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.0 IP.

The home run was Perkins' (2-4, HR, 4 RBI, R) fourth of the season and marked the first grand slam by an IronPig since Jordan Danks hit one on August 31, 2015 at Syracuse.

Louisville cut the lead to 5-4 with a pair of runs in the fourth. Allen led off with a double, advanced to third on a double and scored on a wild pitch charged to Pigs starter Zach Eflin before Raffy Lopez knocked home another run later in the frame with a sac fly to bring the Bats within 5-4.

Eflin (5-1) gave up six runs on nine hits while fanning three over five plus innings.

The Bats extended the lead to 7-5 with a run in the seventh as pinch-hitter Jose Peraza led off with a single, went to second on a bunt single, to third on a hit by pitch and scored when Hernan Iribarren grounded into a force out. The run was charged to Pigs LHP Mario Hollands (2.2 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, K) who was making a rehab appearance.

In the top of the eighth, the Bats extended the lead to 9-5 with a pair of runs. Juan Perez delivered a run with a sac fly and later in the frame, a run scored on a wild pitch charged to RHP Severino Gonzalez (1.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, K).

Cody Asche's solo shot in the bottom of the eighth brought the IronPigs within 9-6.

Louisville plated a run in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 10-6 as Iribarren led off with a single, advanced to second on a single, to third on a walk and scored on Waldrop's sac fly.

Nick Williams extended his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the first for Lehigh Valley.

The IronPigs will begin a three-game set with the Norfolk Tides on Monday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. as RHP David Buchanan (2-3, 4.44) gets the ball for the Pigs against Tides LHP Andy Oliver (0-0, 1.14).
