Columbus Clippers News Release
A night after they were shutout by Durham (20-30), the Clippers (27-21) wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, as leadoff man Erik Gonzalez took the first pitch he saw from Bulls righty Austin Pruitt (3-3) and drove it to the bleachers in left field, and the night would only get better from there as Columbus picked up a 3-0 win on Saturday night at Huntington Park in front of a season-high congregation of 10,562.
The Clippers added two more runs in that first inning, as Ronny Rodriguez came through with a single to left field with the bases loaded and two outs, and that lead would stick.
After an hour and two minute rain delay following the top of the fourth, the two teams went back to business and the Columbus bullpen handled Durham the rest of the way.
Right-hander Cody Anderson was outstanding for Columbus, working four innings of scoreless and hitless baseball while walking a batter and striking out six.
Jeff Johnson (3-1) picked up the win in relief of Anderson following the rain delay, tossing two scoreless innings.
Durham starter in the righty Pruitt went five innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits. He walked one and punched out five.
Shawn Armstrong picked up his third save of the season, working the eighth and ninth frames.
The rubber match between the Clippers and Bulls is set for tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. Two southpaws are set to toe the rubber as TJ House will throw for Columbus while Adam Wilk is slated for Durham.
It is a Bob Evans Family Day at the ball park presented by Bob Evans and The Columbus Dispatch! Fans can purchase a family day admission for $15, day of game at the gate, that will admit two adults and up to four youth 18 and under to general admission seating in the left-field bleachers, the lawn seating area or for standing room only. The Commit to be Fit Fun Run (kids run the bases) follows the game.
