Wednesday's game was delayed by a passing storm, and the tarp was put on the field right after Lauren Haskin from Xerox performed the National Anthem. With the game being the last scheduled meeting between the two teams, every attempt was going to be made to play the game. As the skies darkened, the rain began 20 minutes after the scheduled first pitch and pounded down, along with a few thunder and lightning bursts.

The game finally began at 4:12 p.m., after the grounds crew and Wings front office staff teamed up to work on the field. Rochester start Pat Dean was sharp in the first inning, striking out the first two batters he faced and snagging a line drive himself for the third out.

Both Dean and Indians starter Casey Sadler breezed through the first two innings, each allowing one baserunner and each notching three strikeouts.

The Wings went ahead in the bottom of the third inning. Eric Farris and Danny Santana hit back-to-back singles with one out, and Doug Bernier flew out to shallow right field for the second out. Farris tagged and bluffed coming home, and the throw home from right fielder Mel Rojas, Jr. skipped past catcher Tony Sanchez and allowed Farris to score for a 1-0 Wings lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, Eric Fryer singled and James Beresford walked to put two Wings on base with one out. Fryer scored on the next play when Gustavo Nunez made a throwing error on a routine double play grounder, putting the Wings up 2-0.

The Indians responded in the top of the fifth inning. After a walk by Tony Sanchez, Dean gave up a two-run home run to Elias Diaz, which tied the game up 2-2. Dean set down the next three batters via ground out to end the inning.

The Wings reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning. Santana began the inning with a double off the right field wall. Doug Bernier attempted to move Santana to third on a sacrifice bunt, but catcher Tony Sanchez made a great throw to third to get the lead runner out. With Bernier on first base and two men out, Oswaldo Arcia lined a double down the first base line to score Bernier and put the Wings back on top, 3-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, after a Nunez single, Keon Broxton connected on a pitch from Dean and hit a towering home run to the left field bullpen to put the Indians back up 4-3. After giving up two back-to-back singles to Brent Morel and Steve Lombardozzi, Dean worked his way out of trouble with the assistance of first baseman Reynaldo Rodriguez, who made an unassisted double play to end the inning.

Dean's day was finished after working six innings and allowing seven hits, four earned runs and two walks. Dean (5-4) struck out two and threw 92 pitches, 61 for strikes. Alex Meyer took over to start the seventh inning on the mound for the Red Wings.

Sadler (6-3) also worked six innings, giving up seven hits and three runs (one earned) with three walks and four strikeouts. Sadler threw 91 pitches, 59 for strikes.

The Indians picked up a run off Meyer in the eighth, on an RBI hit by Morel. A.J. Achter relieved Meyer, and worked out of a jam by striking out a pair of Indians batters.

Santana had four hits and Farris had a pair of hits and scored a run.
