Buffalo Bisons News Release

It is with extremely heavy hearts that the entire Buffalo Bisons family mourns the passing of long-time account representative and true American hero, Francis E. (Frank) Mooney. Affectionately known by fans and co-workers as "The Mayor of Coca-Cola Field" and recipient of the 2012 "Spirit of the International League," Mooney passed away on Wednesday at the age of 93.

A native of Angola, NY, Mooney served the Bisons as an account representative for the past 30 years, all having come after his retirement. Mooney handled season ticket and large group accounts, best known for his ability to convince fans who are on the fence to renew their tickets for one more season.

On game nights, Mooney was as recognizable to Bisons fans as the team's mascot, Buster. Often seen roaming the crowds wearing his trademark headphones, the "Moonman" developed his own unique ways to connect with his fellow Buffalo baseball fans, hand-delivering game notes and personally-stamped pocket schedules to various fans around the park. During the 2012 season, Mooney was honored by International League president Randy Mobley with the 3rd annual "Spirit of the International League" award, which recognizes essential roles filled by individuals who are dedicated to helping make sure fans have the most enjoyable experience possible when visiting IL ballparks.

Mooney's resume prior to when he joined the Bisons speaks to his commitment. He was a recipient of four bronze stars as a Navy 'Frogman' (predecessors of the Navy SEALS), working underwater demolition in the pacific theatre of World War II. At the Bisons' Armed Forces Night at Coca-Cola Field last month, the team presented their second annual Francis E. Mooney Comrades Appreciation Awards, honors that Mooney personally presented a season ago.

After his heroic military service to his country, Mooney worked for three decades at the Ford Stamping Plant in Buffalo.

Mooney is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Yvonne "Bonnie" Mooney.
