Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

MOVIN' ON UP: It's been a long time coming. The RailRiders own first place all by themselves. SWB took a pair of games from the Bisons on Tuesday night, winning 2-1 and 5-1 to guarantee a series victory. Combined with Rochester's 5-4 loss to Indianapolis, SWB has first place all by itself for the first time since the then-SWB Yankees claimed the IL North in 2012.

PENTHOUSE POINTS: SWB shared first place after its season-opening win against Syracuse both this year and last. It owned a piece of the penthouse for one day to start 2015 and for three days to begin last year.

ONE-RUN FUN: The RailRiders own the IL's best record in one-run games at 14-5. Buffalo sits in the basement at 7-14.

COMEBACK KIDS: The RailRiders' 10th comeback win of the year proved a rarity. Buffalo entered yesterday a league-best 20-2 when scoring first, but fell in the scheduled nightcap despite plating the game's first run.

GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: The RailRiders stand five games below .500 at PNC Field (14-19) and 11 games over on the road (19-8). The team has hit .281 on the road compared to a .246 mark at home. On the road, SWB has scored 137 runs in 27 games (5.1/game). At home, the squad has plated 111 runs in 33 games (3.4/game). The pitching has performed slightly better on the road (3.31 ERA) than in Moosic (3.39 ERA). No IL team has a better road winning percentage than the RailRiders (.704), who have won 12 of 13 away from PNC Field.

ALL GOOD THINGS: The opening game, started Monday by Bryan Mitchell, saw the prospect starter's scoreless streak stall at 18 innings on Sean Ochinko's two-out double in the fourth. Since a tough loss at Norfolk on May 11, Mitchell has gone 2-1 and the team 4-1 over his last five outings. Over that time, he has amassed a 1.24 ERA while holding foes to a .194 batting average. In his last three starts, he has given up one run in 18 innings (0.50 ERA) with nine hits allowed over 18 innings (.158 BAA).

THAT'S A START: In game two, Jaron Long (5-4) gave up one run over five frames for his second win in as many starts. In six road nods he has gone 4-1 with a 2.87 ERA. Over his six home starts, he has gone 1-3 with a 5.51 ERA. Long has won five of his last seven nods, allowing just three earned runs

HOT HITTER: Mason Williams went 3-for-8 with a double and three RBIs between the two games. He has hit safely in five straight games, going 8-for-18 (.444) with four walks (.524 OBP).

WELCOME BACK: Tyler Austin saw action in game two, his first since he was removed from the June 5 game at Syracuse after diving for a ball on the warning track. He went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to extend his hitting streak to six games. Since an 0-for-2 effort versus Charlotte on May 19 lowered his batting average to .191, he has gone 18-for-62 (.290/.389/.468/.857) with five extra-base hits (three home runs) and 10 RBIs.

RISPY BUSINESS: Through two games on the series, Buffalo has gone 2-for-14 (.143) with men in scoring position, stranding 17 men in the process. The RailRiders have gone 5-for-19 (.263) while leaving 20 men on.

HOW SWEEP IT IS: Today SWB bids for its first three-game sweep of the Bisons at Buffalo since the 2012 Yankees won three at Coca-Cola Field from Aug. 22-24. Both of the first two games that series required extra innings. It started with a 2-1 win in 12 followed by a 4-3 victory in 11. The finale also proved taut, a 6-4 SWB triumph championed by current Bison Chris Dickerson's four-hit showing.
