Louisville Bats News Release
COLUMBUS, Oh - The Louisville Bats (31-28) snapped a five-game losing streak at Huntington Park beating the Columbus Clippers (30-29), 7-4 in 11 innings.
Making a Major League rehab from Cincinnati for the second game, Jason Bourgeois goes 1-for-3 and Devin Mesoraco goes 1-for-2; both with a single in the first inning.
The Clippers came out swinging in the first inning taking advantage of an early walk from the left-hander David Holmberg. They scored just one run from a RBI single by Jesus Aguilar. The Bats escaped a bases loaded jam with the help of Bourgeois and a great catch in center field.
A solo shot to left field by Jerry Sands gave Columbus their second run of the game in the third inning. The Clippers tacked on another in the sixth with a RBI single from Brett Hayes for the 3-0 lead.
Irving Falu singled in Jose Constanza in the top of the seventh off of left-hander Kyle Crockett with a ground ball to center for the Bats first run of the game.
Holmberg (3-5, 4.66) exited the game after six innings, he gave up nine hits, three earned runs, and one home run, walked three and struck out six batters. Right-hander Sam LeCure relieved him in the seventh and gave up a solo home run to the first batter, Tyler Naquin to make it 4-1.
Righty Jhoulys Chacin (2-2, 2.75) went six innings for the Clippers, he gave up four hits, no runs, walked four and struck out one.
The Bats stormed back in the ninth with a two run single from Falu, his third RBI of the night and a sacrifice fly to right by Josh Satin to tie up the ballgame.
The game went 11 innings until Louisville pushed across three runs on Ramon Cabrera's bases clearing single for the 7-4 lead and the win. Jose De La Torre (W, 2-3) earned the win for the Bats and Dustin Molleken (L, 4-1) gets the loss for Columbus.
Tomorrow's final game of the series scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. The probable pitcher for Louisville is right-hander Layne Somsen (0-0, 0.00) and for Columbus is right-hander Jordan Cooper (2-2, 4.50).
