Indians Drop Series Opener to Emeralds 3-2

July 27, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA -The Indians returned to Avista Stadium looking for some home cooking, but instead were greeted by the best pitching staff in the Northwest League. Eugene held Spokane to just four hits in the Emeralds 3-2 win over the Indians in front of 3,955 fans for Kids Run the Ballpark Night presented by ITRON and 95.3 KPND.

Emeralds starter James Needy (1-3) allowed only four hits in five innings of work, and three other relievers held the NWL's highest scoring offense to just two runs. Chris Wilkes picked up his first save of the season in the win.

Spokane got a strong start from Nicholas McBride (0-2), who allowed three runs in 6.2 innings pitched, and a solid relief performance from Jared Eickhoff. The right-handed Eickhoff, a recent arrival from the Arizona League, struck out Donovan Tate with the bases-loaded in the top of the 7th and closed out the game with two scoreless innings.

Guillermo Pimentel drilled his first home run of the season, a monster shot over the Arby's sign in leftfield, to pull the Indians within one run in the fifth inning. Yefry Castillo drove in the other Spokane run with a double down the line in the second.

Tomorrow is game two of a five game series against Eugene and is Grand Slam F-150 Giveaway Night presented by Gus Johnson Ford and KISS 98.1 FM. One lucky fan will drive away in a new Ford F-150 Super Duty truck courtesy of Gus Johnson Ford if a Spokane Indians player hits a grand slam during the game!
