EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (0-2, 16-24) lost their second half home opener to the Boise Hawks (2-0, 19-21) by allowing the Hawks to do most of their offensive damage with the long ball with three home runs, tying Everett's season high for home runs given up in a game.

Boise got their offense going very early against Sox starter Bennett Whitmore (2-4, 5.23 ERA), with four of the first five batters reaching base to plate home two runs in the first. In the third inning, right-fielder Jesus Morelli hit the first home run of the night for the Hawks when he smashed a three-run shot to left after a run had already scored in the inning. Whitmore has allowed 45 of his 52 hits and 23 of his 24 earned runs during his five home starts.

The Frogs responded in the bottom of the inning with four runs of their own, with center-fielder Mario Yepez extending his home hitting streak to nine games with a two-run single and designated hitter James Wood hitting his fifth home run of the season and raising his team-leading RBI total to 26 with a two-run shot to the home run porch in right.

The Sox loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but only managed to get one run to cut the margin to 6-5, and after the missed opportunity the Hawks led off the seventh with back-to-back solo homers by their top two home run hitters this season, designated hitter Rafael Lopez and first baseman Paul Hoilman. Hoilman is now tied for the league lead in home runs with ten.

Everett scored a run in the ninth with two outs when pinch-hitter Jharmidy De Jesus hit a single with two men on to cut the lead to 8-6. Catcher Mike Dowd came to the plate as the potential winning run but flied out to end the game, bringing the Sox home record to 6-12 this season.

The Sox will look to notch their first win of the second half as the two teams match up right-handers Stephen Landazuri (4-2, 4.89 ERA) and Benjamin Wells (2-2, 4.46 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
