Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that the rehab assignment of Cathedral High School graduate Dillon Peters has been transferred from Double-A Altoona to Indianapolis. He is scheduled to pitch at Victory Field in Indy's Fourth of July series opener vs. the Iowa Cubs and will be the 12th big leaguer to rehab with the Indians this season.
Peters, 29, was placed on the 15-day injured list on June 6 (retroactive to June 3). In 16 games (four starts) with Pittsburgh to begin the season, he went 4-2 with a 3.86 ERA (11er/25.2ip), 21 strikeouts, 1.17 WHIP and .161 average against. He has held left-handed hitters in the majors to a .103 average (3-for-29) this season.
After being traded from Los Angeles (AL) to Pittsburgh on July 19, 2021 in exchange for cash, Peters was assigned to Indianapolis and went 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA (2er/12.0ip) and 15 strikeouts in five games (two starts) with his hometown team. In his second start on Aug. 7, 2021 at Iowa, he earned the win with 5.0 hitless innings.
Peters is a 2011 graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. He was a standout prep in the Indianapolis area, registering a 29-2 record, sub-1.00 ERA (205.1ip) and 344 strikeouts during his first three high school seasons. He was the starting pitcher for Cathedral in both the 2010 and 2011 Indiana High School Athletic Association 4A Baseball State Finals at Victory Field.
His accolades from his first three years (2008-10) at Cathedral are as follows:
Two-time Indiana All-State pitcher (2009-10)
Two-time Indiana Super Team First Team (2009-10)
Two-time Indianapolis Player of the Year (2009-10)
Three-time First Team All-Indianapolis pitcher (2008-10)
Indiana Super Team Player of the Year (2010)
The southpaw was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 20th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Cathedral but did not sign. He was then drafted by the Miami Marlins in 2014 out of the University of Texas. Peters made his major league debut in 2017 with the Marlins before being traded from Miami to Los Angeles (AL) in November 2018.
