Baddoo Drives in Three off One Swing

(OMAHA, NE): Coming off a series split against Scranton and Louisville in the last home stand, the Mud Hens were looking to begin a new series with the Omaha Storm Chasers. RHP Logan Shore took the mound, making his fifth start of the season, appearing in his 17th game.

Looking to begin the series with a win, the Mud Hens would open the game with a couple of base hits, by RF Daz Cameron and 3B Brendon Davis. However, Toledo would fail to drive in the runs, after an early scoring opportunity. In the bottom half, the Omaha Storm Chasers would lead off with a line drive solo shot to right field. The homer gave Omaha an early 1-0 lead. Omaha would follow up with a base hit after the solo shot, but Shore was able to settle in, retiring the next three batters.

In the top of the second, the balls continued flying out of the yard. First, LF Kerry Carpenter hit a one out double, which led to an RBI single by C Dustin Garneau. Then, DH Jamie Westbrook would tally his 13th double of the year, moving Garneau to third. The next batter, CF Akil Baddoo would then hit a three-run blast to extend his hitting streak to seven games. His third Toledo homer gave the Mud Hens a 4-1 lead. However, in the bottom half of the second, the Mud Hens would give up three home runs in the inning, allowing five Storm Chasers runs. Omaha would now lead the game, with a score of 6-4.

In the third inning, the ball continued to travel for Omaha. The Omaha Storm Chasers would hit their fifth home run to take a 7-4 lead. After a quiet fourth inning for the Mud Hens, the Storm Chasers hit their sixth home run, giving them a season high. A hit-by-pitch would be followed. Then, the Storm Chasers would tally another run with an RBI triple, extending the lead to a score of 9-4. But an RBI single would follow up, as the Storm Chasers put their tenth run on the board, and nobody out. However, the Hens would get out of the inning, allowing no more runs.

In the fifth, the Storm Chasers hit their 7th home run of the game, tying their franchise record. The Storm Chasers now led with a score of 11-4. They would drive in four more runs, following the home run to make it a 15-4 game. In the sixth, the Storm Chasers tallied their eighth home run, with a two-run shot to left center field. That homer officially gave Omaha their franchise record, recording the most home runs ever hit in a single game. The Mud Hens now trailed 17-4.

In the top of the seventh, the Mud Hens would tally two runs with a couple of RBIs hit by RF Daz Cameron and 3B Brendon Davis. However, the Storm Chasers would respond with another homer, giving them nine of the night. The score was now 18-6, as the game headed into the eighth.

In Omaha's final inning of offense, they would score two more runs to make it a 20-6 game. That would give them a season high in runs scored in a game, as they took game one of the series. With those two runs, Omaha scored in every inning of offense. Despite the loss for Toledo, CF Akil Baddoo ended the night going 2-4 with a double, three RBIs, and a homer. He will look to stay hot at the plate and continue his hitting streak as the series rolls around.

NEXT UP: The Toledo Mud Hens will be back in action on Wednesday, looking to get back to their winning ways against the Omaha Storm Chasers. Wednesday's event will be a doubleheader, with first pitch beginning at 6:05pm for game one.
