Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a roster move today as IF Asdrubal Cabrera was activated by the Cleveland Indians.

Cabrera re-joins the Major League team this evening after spending the past five days with Akron on an rehab assignment. The shortstop landed on the 60-day disabled list after fracturing his left forearm while making a play in the infield on May 17th at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays. The 24-year-old then returned to action with the short-season Class A Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Monday, July 12th and finished 2-for-6 at the plate in two contests with a walk, a double and two RBI in two games in New York-Penn League. He then appeared in four games for the Aeros this week, one as the designated hitter, and batted .357 (5-for-14) with three more walks and a home run in yesterday's victory over the Altoona Curve. In 33 games played earlier this season with the Indians, Cabrera was batting .287 with 16 runs scored. A native of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, he owns a .287 batting average over the course of four years and 323 contests with the Cleveland Indians after originally earning the promotion in 2007. The Indians acquired Cabrera in a trade with the Seattle Mariners organization in 2006.

Major League rehab assignments do not affect minor league rosters and the Akron roster currently stands at the full 24 men + 1 on the disabled list + 1 on rehab assignment. The Aeros continue their home stand tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Altoona Curve with Indians star OF Shin-Soo Choo (now wearing #23) in the lineup.
