IceHogs Clip Rivermen in Shootout 2-1
February 1, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
Corey Crawford made 38 saves through overtime and stopped four of the five Peoria Rivermen shooters faced in a shootout to earn a 2-1 win for the Rockford IceHogs on Friday night at Carver Arena.
The two teams played a fast-paced, back-and-forth game from the opening faceoff but each goaltender stood tall in his respective net. Chris Beckford-Tseu matched Crawford save-for-save through 40 minutes until the IceHogs finally took a bight out of the doughnut on the scoreboard first.
Bryan Bickell scored his 12th goal of the year at 1:26 when he slid a rebound under Beckford-Tseu off a Ryan Stokes point shot to make it 1-0.
Nikolay Lemtyugov set up Yan Stastny for the equalizer eight minutes later when he took the puck in the low slot by the Rockford net, spun around in front and threaded the needle to a wide open Stastny at the side of the goal to tie the game at 9:01 and force overtime.
Each team had its chances in overtime but failed to score, again with the goaltenders coming up big to move the game on to a shootout.
There the IceHogs would mark twice in four rounds while the Rivermen scored just once, picking up a single point in the game but moving into sole possession of second in the West in conjunction with a Chicago Wolves loss.
The Rivermen will get right back to action tomorrow night when they host the Milwaukee Admirals at 8 pm. Tickets are on sale now through the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, at all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (309) 676-8700.
