Peoria Rivermen News Release

After a torrid January the Peoria Rivermen look to continue winning games and moving up in the standings as they battle the West Division-leading Rockford IceHogs at Carver Arena this evening at 7 pm.

Finishing the month of January by winning 13 of its 16 games, Peoria downed the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-1 last night after shaking off some first period rust and trailing by a goal. The line of Charles Linglet (3a), Martin Kariya (2-1-3), and Julian Talbot (1-2-3) touched the scoresheet on every Peoria tally, with Steve Wagner contributing the game winner in the second period.

The game was also notable for the great goaltending on both ends of the ice, with Marek Schwarz looking sharp in stopping 28 shots on net for the win, while Jimmy Howard turned aside 34 shots in taking the loss.

The Rivermen and IceHogs face off tonight for the fourth of eight meetings between the two clubs this season and fourth and final time here in Peoria. The last game between the two teams was back on January 23 when the Rivermen posted five second period goals en route to a 6-1 win over the IceHogs. Rockford took a 1-0 first period lead on a Troy Brouwer goal, but then the Rivermen took over. Nicholas Drazenovic evened the contest with an even strength goal, which was followed by a pair of shorthanded goals from Trent Whitfield and Martin Kariya while Peoria killed a five minute major power play. The IceHogs failed to recover from the onslaught, as Jean-Guy Trudel tacked on a power play goal and Nikolay Lemtyugov scored twice to cap the scoring. Chris Beckford-Tseu stopped 23 shots for the win while Corey Crawford allowed five goals on 23 shots through two periods and took the loss. Wade Flaherty allowed one goal on eight shots in a period of relief work for the IceHogs.

On the other side of the rink, the IceHogs head into tonight's contest after a 2-1 loss before the All-Star break to the Iowa Stars. All the goals came in the second period as Rockford failed to fire up the league's fourth-best offense on a consistent basis in the game. Troy Brouwer scored his league-leading 15th power play goal for the IceHogs' only marker.

Tickets are on sale now for this and all remaining Rivermen home games through the Peoria Civic Center Box Office, all TicketMaster locations, on line at www.TicketMaster.com, or charge by phone at (309) 676-8700.
