Houston drops 4-3 SO to Quad City

HOUSTON, Texas - The Houston Aeros and Quad City Flames battled through regulation and overtime but the Flames prevail in a 4-3 shootout Friday night in front of 8,221 fans at Toyota Center. Quad City (22-19-2-5) recorded two goals in the shootout while the Aeros (22-18-2-3) scored on only one of five shots dropping the club to 4-3 when the game goes to a shootout.

The Aeros were led by center Adrian Foster with two points (one goal, one assist) as Quad City's Krys Kolanos marked three points (two goals, one assist). Aeros' goaltender Barry Brust stopped 29 of 32 shots during 65 minutes of play and blocked three of five in the shootout. Quad City used two net-minders as Curtis McElhinney stopped 13 of 16 shots in 31:54 of playing time in the first half of the game. Matt Keetley took over after the third goal and blocked all 13 shots in 33:06 minutes of play and stopped four of five shots in the shootout.

The Flames got on the board first as Kolanos netted his first goal of the evening at 7:24 in the first period. Defense Brett Palin and right wing Carsen Germyn recorded the assists on the early marker. Quad City also recorded the only penalty in the period as the Aeros failed to convert on the power-play opportunity.

Houston's C Marco Rosa tied the game up only 1:56 in the second period, his first goal in seventeen games played. Foster and RW Joel Ward earned the assists. Quad City's Kolanos and RW Grant Stevenson netted back-to-back goals at 7:01 and 9:55 in the period for a 3-1 lead. Stevenson and D Adam Pardy earned the assists on the Kolanos goal as Pardy and Kolanos earned the assists on the Stevenson power-play marker. Houston followed suite with back-to-back goals from RW Petr Kalus and Foster tying the game at 3 each. LW Ryan Hamilton marked the lone assists for Kalus with D Paul Albers and C Serge Payer recorded the assists for Foster's game-tying goal at 11:54 in the second period.

Quad City out-shot the Aeros 9-5 in the final period which was held scoreless. Through regulation the Aeros went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage and the Flames converted on 1 of 3 chances.

Quad City netted two goals in the shootout, Kolanos recorded the shootout-winning goal on the third of five shooters. Rosa recorded the only Aeros' shootout goal in the fourth slot.
