Rochester Americans News Release
Game Notes: Tonight, the Rochester Americans host the Toronto Marlies at The Blue Cross Arena in the first game of the home-and-home series between the two teams this weekend. The 7:35 p.m. contest can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
Friday Night Frenzies: The contest falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Fans can enjoy live music from Bandit in the main lobby of The Blue Cross Arena up until gametime. The game will also be "Go Red for Women" Night as the American Heart Association will distribute 6,000 rally cards.
Head-to-Head: Rochester is 0-5-0 this season and 9-14-0 all-time against the Toronto Maple Leafs' affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (12-49-2-3, 30 points) enters the contest at the bottom of the American Hockey League's Western Conference and a last place standing in the North Division. Rochester owns the worst winning percentage in the league after dropping eight straight and 24 of its last 26 games. Mark Mancari remains the top point-getter for the Amerks with 36 (13+23), while Stefan Meyer has a team-lead of 16 goals.
Welcome Back: The Florida Panthers announced Wednesday that the team has returned right wing Anthony Stewart to the Amerks. Stewart rejoins the Amerks for the second time this month after receiving his seventh promotion to the National Hockey League. A native of LaSalle, Quebec, Stewart has collected 19 points (8+11) and 24 penalty minutes (PIM) in 24 American Hockey League contests this season. The 6-foot-1, 227-pound forward has one assist in 24 appearances with the Panthers. Stewart was Florida's first-round selection (25th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Also making his return to Rochester is defenseman Jordan Henry after recently being reassigned to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. Henry, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound defenseman, has one assist in 20 games with the Amerks and four points (2+2) in just as many games with the Everblades.
Toronto Notes: The Marlies (30-9-1-4) are 2-0-1-0 in their last three games and have 65 points, leading the North Division. Goalies Justin Pogge and Scott Clemmensen are among the top goaltenders in the AHL with 16 and 13 wins, respectively. David Ling (9+28) holds the team lead in points with 37 as well as the team lead in penalty minutes with 109. Kris Newbury is tied with John Mitchell for the team lead in goals, both with 14.
Next Game: Rochester will complete the home-and-home series the following day as it heads north of the border for a 4:00 p.m. matinee with Toronto at Ricoh Coliseum. The afternoon matchup can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks.
Amerks Annual CF Dinner: The Rochester Americans will hold their 18th Annual Amerks Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Sports Memorabilia Auction on Tuesday, February 12th at The Clarion Riverside Hotel in downtown Rochester. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. The Amerks will once again serve guests their food and drinks for tips, with all proceeds benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Rochester. The tipping does not stop after dinner, as players perform antics and tricks with their guests and fellow players for more money.
