IceDogs Flex Muscle in 8-0 Win of Fronts

The first game following the holiday break was a great one for Kingston as they skated to a 6-1 victory over Peterborough on Friday night. Niagara didn't have the same luck. They fell 4-1 to the Ottawa 67's on Friday afternoon. Niagara certainly missed a couple of their big guns in that game. Jason Robertson and Daniel Bukac are both in British Columbia for the World Junior tournament. One player in the lineup for Niagara was former Kingston Frontenacs player Jacob Paquette. He, along with Billy Constantinou and Ian Martin of the Frontenacs, were all facing their former teams for the first time.

Niagara looked determined to bounce back from their Friday loss. They opened the scoring early in the game when Akil Thomas was sent in on a breakaway after a beautiful pass from Drew Hunter. Thomas went to his backhand and beat Bonello for a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Tyler Burnie threw a big hit in the neutral zone but was called for a check to the head. As he sat in the box, Niagara extended their lead. Oliver Castleman's shot went off the crossbar and in to extend the Niagara lead. The Frontenacs were certainly keeping pace with the IceDogs as the shots were 11-10 Niagara, but Kingston couldn't beat Stephen Dhillon in the period. The lead stood at 2-0 for Niagara after twenty minutes.

The IceDogs flexed their muscle in the middle period. Philip Tomasino made it 3-0 with a wrister that beat Bonello on the glove side. That's when Kirill Maksimov took over. He scored three consecutive goals over a span of 11:57 for a natural hat-trick. The first of his three goals ended the night for Brendan Bonello who was replaced by Marshall Frappier. It was Frappier's first appearance for the Frontenacs after being acquired on December 28th. The IceDogs took a 6-0 lead to the dressing room after two periods.

Little changed in the third period. Ben Jones and Oliver Castleman added goals to make the final 8-0. Most of the excitement in the period came from scrums after the whistle. Tyler Burnie ended up leaving the game after a ten-minute misconduct. Both teams ended up keeping their tempers in check for the most part and the game ended quietly.

Kingston will play in Oshawa and Hamilton next week before returning home next Friday, January 4th to host the Peterborough Petes. The team will be unveiling an all new in-game experience for the fans. Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.ca.
