Steelheads Fall to Petes in SO
December 29, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Brampton Steelheads News Release
Heading on the road after a tough 6-2 loss to the Oshawa Generals on home ice last night, the Steelheads looked for hot start this evening in Peterborough. Just five minutes into the game, Steelheads Cole Schwindt is sent to the box for high sticking and the Steelheads are faced with their first penalty kill of the night. After a big toe save by Steelheads Jacob Ingham, Thomas Harley was able to find Alan Lyszczarczyk to score his 15th goal of the season and put the Steelheads first on the scoreboard. With six minutes to go, shots were tied 11-11 just before McLeod was caught tripping. As the Petes went on a power play with two minutes to go in the first, Canade and Merkley met in the corner and what looked to be a possible 5 on 3 call for the Petes ended up being a diving penalty for Merkley to make it 4 on 4. Steelheads were on the power play for just over a minute once McLeod's penalty expired but were unable to get past Jones in net. At the end of the first, shots on goal were Steelheads 13, Petes 14.
The Peterborough Petes started the second period off with a bang from the point as Cole Fraser ties it up 1-1 with just over a minute into the period. With an even 20 shots each and no whistle for over five and a half minutes, both teams were able to regroup half way into the second. As the Steelheads head to the power play after a holding call for the Petes, Mississauga was able to set up a 5-pass play before finding Alan Lyszczarczyk in front of the net for his second goal of the night. At the end of the second, the Steelheads take the lead 2-1 but Petes out shot the Steelheads 27-26.
Going into what was expected to be final frame of the game, the Steelheads find themselves back into the box for the Petes third power play of the game. With 2:41 left of the clock, Liam Kirk creates open space in front of the net and rock it top corner. It is now tied 2-2. Heading into overtime, the Steelheads get another tripping call as they slide into 4 on 3 but successfully killed it. With nothing solved in over time, the game proceeds to shoot out. Petes Nick Robertson get the first and only goal to bring the Petes to victory.
With a rest day tomorrow, the Mississauga Steelheads get back on the road visiting the Windsor Spitfires for a New Year's Eve afternoon game. Returning back to the PMC on Thursday night, the Steelheads hit 401 visiting Oshawa on Friday and then back to the PFFC January 6th at 2:00 PM against the Petes for our fourth and final face-off in regular season.
