Brampton Steelheads News Release

MISSISSAUGA, ON- The Steelheads were back on home ice after the league wide Christmas break against the Oshawa Generals. With Owen Tippett away at the World Juniors, the Steelheads looked to their depth for some scoring without one of their top point leaders in the lineup. After a hard fought first two periods, the Steelheads dropped 6-2 against the visiting Oshawa Generals.

It was an excellent start to the first period as the Steelheads started the game with a lot of pressure pushing a competitive first line. The Steelheads have struggled on the power play this season but once they got the momentum going, they were able to get on the score sheet with their first goal 5 minutes into the game. Defense man Liam Ham found the back of the net passing goaltender Aidan Hughes on the powerplay. Steelheads net minder Jacob Ingham held his own ground the first period keeping the net free of General goals. 15 minutes into the first period, Captain Cartsy finds Alan Lyszczarczyk to barry home his second point of the night registering his 14th goal of the season. At the end of the first period the score sat at 2-0 for the Mississauga Steelheads. Shots on goal at the end of the first-Steelheads 14, Generals 11.

After a busy second period in the box both teams had registered 7 penalties within 20 minutes of play. Both teams had dominated their respectable penalty kills before Danii Antropov snuck pass Steelheads Jacob Ingham on the power play to score the Generals first goal of the night with just 7.1 seconds left on the clock. Shots on goal at the end of the second was Steelheads 25, Generals 22.

Heading back into the last period of play, Oshawa took the lead at 13:25. The high penalty affair between the Steelheads and Generals continued as they added another five calls. By the end of the 3rd period, 50% of tonight's goal were scored on the powerplay. The Steelheads had a hard fought two periods besides the final score. A teaching lesson Steelheads Head Coach and GM James Richmond has for his young team is "to teach these boys that it is not so bad when things go wrong in a game, you can't get too high or too low". The Steelheads have a young team that requires patience and hard work and that is what the players will continue to do. Even veterans continue to learn how to be a better player each game. Over-age forward Alan Lyszczarczyk comments "we need to play a hard 60 minutes and full 60 minutes to come out with wins".

The Steelheads dropped their first game in the second half of the season but have their chance to bounce back with two more games before the New Year. They head to Peterborough tomorrow to take on the Petes and over to Windsor on Monday afternoon for a 2:05 puck drop on New Years Eve. The Steelheads return to home ice on January 6th as they face-off against the Peterborough Petes for the fourth and final time this season at 2:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster here.
