Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack and Kitchener Rangers are going to be very familiar with each other by February 1st. The teams will meet 6 times over the next month, and the Attack were hoping to get the early upper hand.

Kitchener came out of the gates roaring, determined to get the advantage over the Attack in their first meeting of the year. After 3 quick goals to begin the game, 2 more were scored before the buzzer sounded and the Attack found themselves in a 5-0 hole after one period.

After the ice circus show during the 1st intermission from Hometown Hockey, the Attack came out ready to battle in the second frame. Back and forth action marked the first ten minutes, but the final ten were controlled by Owen Sound. A Baywest Nissan power play was converted by Kevin Hancock and the Attack were on the board 5-1. The score remained the same heading into the 3rd period with shots even in the 2nd at 9 apiece.

The third began like the second, chances for both sides but no goals. Things changed 15 minutes in when Jackson Doherty was set up in the slot by Bryce Caruk and he made no mistake, ripping it by Owen Sound native Lucas Pfeil in net. It proved to be too little too late for the Attack as Yantsis scored his second of the game to make it a 6-2 score, the eventual final.

The Mark McDade of Chestnut Park Realty shots on goal for the game ended 37-27 in favour of the visiting Rangers. The Three Stars were swept by the Rangers, with 1st star going to Jonathan Yantsis for his 2 goal, 1 assist night, 2nd star going to Ryan Stepien and 3rd star to local Lucas Pfiel who made 25 stops in the game. Your Hatten Home Building Centre Hardest Working Player of the Game was claimed by Aidan Dudas.

The Owen Sound Attack are back in action on New Year's Eve to take on the Colts in Barrie, with puck drop at 7:30pm. You can watch the game on Rogers Local 53 and listen on 560 CFOS Kia of Owen Sound/Terry's Trailer Service Bear Radio.
