IceCats Sign Goalie

WORCESTER, MA – St. Louis Blues Senior Vice President/General Manager and Worcester IceCats General Manager of Hockey Operations Larry Pleau announced today that the IceCats have again signed goaltender Jake Moreland to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). The ‘Cats also released goaltender Mike Valley from his PTO.

The 24 year old Moreland is now in his second stint with the IceCats this season, having signed to a PTO back on February 17th. A native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Moreland made his American Hockey League (AHL) debut on the same day, allowing one goal on 18 shots in a 2-0 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. He also became the sixth goaltender to be used by the IceCats, tying a 2002-03 franchise mark. Worcester has since gone on to employ eight masked men between the pipes.

Prior to signing with Worcester, he appeared in 19 games for the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL. The first-year pro has an ECHL record of 11-4-1 with a .910 save percentage and a 2.75 goals against average.

In another related move, the IceCats have released goaltender Mike Valley from his PTO and returned him to their ECHL affiliate, the Peoria (IL) Rivermen. Valley has backstopped the ‘Cats in two games this season, his most recent action came on March 7th in a 4-2 win over Springfield. Valley's IceCats numbers reflect two wins with four goals allowed, a 1.95 goals against average and a .913 save percentage. He is expected to join the Rivermen for their two game set with the Toledo Storm beginning Friday.

The IceCats are on the road for a three-in-three weekend, before returning to Worcester's Centrum Centre for 7:05 face-offs with the Houston Aeros and Portland Pirates on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
