Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins and Michigan Works! will present the 2004 Community Employment Expo on Wednesday, March 24 at Van Andel Arena. This inaugural job fair will be held from 6-8:45 p.m. during the Griffins' game against the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, with the goal of helping unemployed workers connect with local businesses.

To date, 18 West Michigan companies have reserved display tables on the arena concourse to meet with qualified candidates regarding employment in a variety of industries. While all attendees at the March 24 game are invited to participate in the expo, anyone who presents an unemployment benefit stub at the Van Andel Arena box office that night will receive one free ticket to allow them the opportunity to take advantage of this unique event.

"Everyone in our community has been affected in some way over the last few years by the wave of downsizing and layoffs that has occurred," said Bob Sack, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Griffins. "Thanks to the involvement of our corporate partners, we are honored to host this event and, in a small way, help address the problem of unemployment in our area."

Organizations currently scheduled to take part include Axios Incorporated, CareerMatrix.com, Cintas, Cornerstone University, Crystal Flash, East Imports/Fox Motor Group, Foremost Insurance, GrandRapidsLive.com, Hope Works, Independent Bank Corp., Integrity Satallite Services, Kodiak Construction, MC Sports, Michigan Works!, N&K Manufacturing, Priority Health, T-Mobile and the University of Phoenix. Any other businesses wishing to participate in the expo may call the Griffins office at (616) 774-4585 ext. 3009.
