IceCaps Slip Past Bears

ST. JOHN'S, NL, Canada - Jakub Vrana netted a goal in his first game back from anillness absence, but Bud Holloway's power play goal and Eddie Pasquale's 23saves would help the St. John's IceCaps slide past the Hershey Bears by a 2-1score on Saturday night at Mile One Centre.

Vrana got the Bears on the board first, completing a prettypassing play. The Bears enteredthe IceCaps zone three-on-two, with Travis Boyd dropping a pass for ChrisBourque. In the slot, Bourquefaked a shot and passed to his right, from where Vrana ripped a one-timer pastPasquale at 17:16 for his ninth goal of the season.

Pasquale would settle his team down with several saves on trickyshots sent to him in the middle period. The inspired hosts would knot the score on a play similar to that whichled to Vrana's goal. Collecting afeed from Brandon McNally, Max Friberg let a one-time shot go from the rightcircle that beat Dan Ellis at 4:51.

Hershey needed more penalty kill work early in the third. Moments after killing a carry-overroughing penalty, the Bears would again find themselves down a man threeminutes in. Holloway would kickdown a clearing bid, and with John Scott setting a screen, hurried a wrist shotthat flew past Ellis at 4:28.

That would be all the IceCaps would need on offense. Ellis saw his six-game win streaksnapped and fell to 22-8-4 on the season with 20 saves. Pasquale improved to 10-6-3 with thevictory.

The Bears battle the IceCaps again tomorrow, March 13 at 2:30 PM.
