Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - After a home and home series against Gwinnett to open the 2007-08 season, the Ice Pilots now have six of their next seven games at home. The Ice Pilots (0-2-0) look to get their first win of the season on Wednesday night against the Reading Royals. Rookie forward Mathieu Roy leads the Ice Pilots with two goals in the first two contests. Goaltenders Mike Brodeur and Doug Groenestege each have started one game for Pensacola.
This week's Games
Wednesday, Oct. 24 and Friday, Oct. 26 vs. Reading (Both games at 7:05 p.m.)
The Ice Pilots take on a non-familiar foe this week as the Reading Royals from the North Division come to town. These two teams have met two times before, the most recent coming last season in October at Reading. The Royals are currently 1-1-0 and are led by Patrick Jarrett who had four assists in the first two games. Former Ice Pilot goaltender Jeff Pietrasiak earned Reading's win on Saturday night in Johnstown.

Sunday, Oct. 28 at Mississippi at 5:05 p.m.
The Ice Pilots make a short trip down I-10 to battle their old nemesis, the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The Sea Wolves return to the ECHL after a two year absence due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Mississippi lost their first two games at Florida against the Everblades. The Sea Wolves mustered only two goals against the Everblades with goaltender Morgan Cey taking both losses.
Last week's Games
Friday vs. Gwinnett (5-3 Loss)
Mike Vigilante and Mike Hamilton each scored two goals and Jeff Campbell added four assists as the Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Ice Pilots in the season opener 5-3 in front of 4,228 at the Pensacola Civic Center. The two teams played a scoreless first period and then Vigilante struck on the power play at 6:08 of the second period to make it 1-0. The Ice Pilots quickly answered at 7:46 as Phil Youngclaus netted his first goal as an Ice Pilot to even the score. Following, Vigilante scored his second and then Mike Hamilton netted two tallies including a shorthander to put the Gladiators up 4-1. Jon Awe fired a one-timer to make it 5-1. Ice Pilots goaltender Mike Brodeur left after the second period due to injury and was replaced by Doug Groenestege. Pensacola tried a late comeback with two goals with under 1:30 left by Mathieu Roy and J.C. Sawyer but the Ice Pilots fell 5-3.
Saturday at Gwinnett (5-2 Loss)
Mike Vigilante scored two goals for the second straight night including the game winner as the Gwinnett Gladiators defeated the Ice Pilots by a score of 5-2 in front of 7,367 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Derek Nesbitt, Jamie Milam and Mike Vigilante netted power play goals 1:33 apart in the first period to put Gwinnett ahead 3-0. The Ice Pilots came back in the second as rookie Mathieu Roy tallied his second goal in as many nights for the Ice Pilots. Then, rookie Luke Erickson who played 11 games last season for Gwinnett cut the lead to 3-2 with a tremendous break to the Gladiators net to beat goaltender Craig Kowalski. However just 43 seconds later, Gwinnett regained a two goal lead as Mike Vigilante scored his second of the night and fourth of the season. Lou Dickenson would add one to finish up the scoring as Gwinnett took the game 5-2. Doug Groenestege made 33 saves in his first ECHL start.
