Ice Dogs Fall To Falcons In Shootout, 2-1

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (3-4-1) came up short Saturday night versus the Fresno Falcons (5-1-1), though they earned a point in their fourth straight game. The point guaranteed they retained sole possession of second place in the Pacific Division.

The Ice Dogs scored the first goal of the game 2:12 into the third period on the power play by Ash Goldie, with assists to Chris Kenady and Christian Larrivee. They held the lead until 7:39 when Luke Curtin scored unassisted to tie the score 1-1. The game would remain tied through the five minute sudden death overtime until Curtin scored the game winner in a shootout to give Fresno the 2-1 win. Curtin has tormented the Ice Dogs this season, having scored four goals in the previous game at Long Beach last weekend.

Greg Hewitt was solid in goal for Long Beach, making 23 saves despite the overtime loss, while Brett Jaeger had 35 saves and the win for Fresno. The Falcons were 0-7 on the power play while the Ice Dogs went 1-9.

The Ice Dogs play again Wednesday and Friday night when they travel to Phoenix to take on the Roadrunners in the first ever meeting between the two teams. After a two game series in Phoenix the Ice Dogs will return home next Saturday to take on the Utah Grizzlies.
