Ice Pilots Lose to Columbia 5-3

Pensacola, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots had 3-1 lead going into the third period but lost to the Columbia Inferno 5-3 on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center. The Inferno scored four times in the third period for the win.

The Ice Pilots jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Luke Fulghum scoring 72 seconds into the game. Chris St. Jacques added to the lead with a shorthanded goal in the second period at the 11:20 mark. Columbia got on the scoreboard with a goal by Chanse Fitzpatrick to make it a 2-1game. Nick Lindberg scored with 2:23 left in the second period on a pretty pass from Brian Collins and the Ice Pilots lead 3-1.

Columbia scored four times in the third period. Jeff Smith started the scoring with a power play goal at 7:50. Chris Cava tied the game up at three scoring at the 9:20 mark and Jeff Smith scored the game winning goal with 5:29 left in the game. Mike Stathopoulos would add an empty net goal at the end of the game and Columbia stunned the Ice Pilots winning 5-3.

The Ice Pilots had 35 shots on goal, 27 penalty minutes and went 0-4 on the power play. Columbia had 37 shots on goal, 17 penalty minutes and went 2-9 on the power play. Todd Ford was the losing goalie for the Ice Pilots and Chris Houle picked up the win in goal for Columbia.

The Ice Pilots dropped their record to 1-4-1 for 3 points and Columbia improved their record to 5-2-1 for 11 points. The Ice Pilots will play next at home on Friday, November 11 vs. Charlotte at 7:05 p.m.
