LONG BEACH, Calif. - Goaltender Brett Jaeger and assistant captain Luke Curtin each played key roles in both regulation and the shootout to help lead the Fresno Falcons to a 2-1 shootout victory against the Long Beach Ice Dogs last night at Long Beach Arena.

Jaeger made 35 saves through 65 minutes of hockey, getting beaten just once 2:12 into the third period when Ash Goldie's shot that was going well wide deflected off a Falcons defenseman and into the net. The Falcons' second-year goaltender shined especially during the second period when his club successfully killed off six Long Beach power plays, including nearly three minutes of five-on-three situations.

Curtin, who torched Long Beach with four goals the last time the teams met on Oct. 28, tied the game that had been scoreless heading into the third period. With the teams four-on-four, Curtin scooped up an errant Long Beach pass that escaped the Ice Dogs defenseman standing on the Fresno blue line and scored his team-leading sixth goal of the year at 7:39 on the ensuing breakaway.

In the shootout, Cutin led off for the Falcons and set the tone by again besting Ice Dogs goaltender Greg Hewitt on a breakaway. Jaeger took care of the rest by stopping all four shooters he faced, and Pete Fregoe also added a tally in the shootout to seal Fresno's second shootout win in as many nights.

With the victory, the Falcons continue to lead the Pacific Division with a mark of 5-1-1, four points clear of both the Ice Dogs and Bakersfield Condors.

Fresno returns home tonight to host the Condors at Save Mart Center at 5 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive the second in a series of five poster giveaways, and kids 12 and under are free. Single-game tickets for the game are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets and Save Mart Center's box office. Prices range from $8 - $22.
