Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Ice Dogs clashed with the Trenton Titans in front of the largest home crowd of the year. The dogs pulled off a 2-0 shutout on Saturday night with 4,714.

The Ice Dogs (15-27-3) started off the first period firing shots at Titans goaltender, Andrew Allen. Jerome Marois almost snuck one past Allen early, but it ricocheted off the post. Although the Ice Dogs appeared to be the more aggressive team in the first, the shot totals for each team told a different story. The Trenton Titans (22-16-5) had nine shots in the first and Long Beach had a total of eight first period shots. The first period ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Long Beach took control early in the second period when Nolan Graham scored a goal as a result of a 2-on-1 breakaway 4:45 into the second frame. T.J. Aceti narrowly escaped with a shutout as the puck teetered on the goal line and was eventually cleared from the zone. The last shutout recorded by Aceti came during the home opener in a 3-0 victory over the Bakersfield Condors.

Dan Vandermeer sealed the deal for the dogs with an unassisted empty-net goal with 17.6 seconds remaining in the final period. Aceti earned the number one star of the game with the remarkable shutout and his first assist of the year. Long Beach's next opponent is the San Diego Gulls in San Diego on Feb. 10th.
