BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads gained ground on the first place San Diego Gulls with an exciting 3-2 overtime win before a standing room only crowd at the Bank of America Centre Saturday night. Idaho improves to 28-14-5, 61 points, while San Diego falls to 31-12-3, 65 points.

The Gulls took the lead early in the first period on a power play goal by former Steelhead Chris Gobert. Idaho's backup goaltender Kaleb Christenson set up to take a shot from Mike Garrow, but Gobert snagged the rebound catching Christenson out of position and beat him glove side at 2:42. The Steelheads evened the score on the power play at the eight-minute mark. ECHL All-Star defenseman David Cornacchia skated the puck down the boards from the blue line, took it around the net and left a drop pass for Andrei Vasilyev who hammered the puck high over Trevor Koenig's right shoulder. The goal was Vasilyev's ninth of the season, and the fifth goal in five games.

San Diego went ahead by a goal again, this time on a tally by Samy Nasreddine at 3:28 of the second period. The goal prompted a change in goaltenders for Idaho and newcomer Scott Kabotoff came in to see action for the first time in a Steelheads sweater. As in the first period, the Steelheads would knot the game again. Cornacchia skated the puck in from outside the blue line and took a soft shot on a tough angle just in front of the crease line that got by Koenig.

Both teams played a tight defensive third period, prohibiting any scoring. Regulation play ended tied at two apiece, sending the game to overtime. Idaho had a 1:11 man-advantage going into the fourth frame, and scored the game-winner just four seconds after the Gulls killed it off. At 1:18 defenseman Darrel Hay scored on a slapshot that got under Koenig's right pad.
