Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs (31-19-8) were able to fend off a San Diego Gulls' (27-26-5) comeback bid, snapping a three game winless streak with a 3-2 victory. The team, which has been strong on the road all season, got back to .500 at home with a record of 12-12-4.

Michael Lambert got the first goal of the game with an assist to Luke Fritshaw to give the Ice Dogs the 1-0 lead at 6:13 of the opening period. Than 1:41 later, he scored again, this time from Mike Vellinga and David Cousineau to make it a two goal lead for Long Beach at the end of one.

At 7:09 of the second, San Diego got on the board with a goal by Jean-Francois Soucy from Rob Flynn and Bobby Cunningham. At 12:28 they tied the score at 2-2 when Jesse Bennefield scored from Mark Wires.

Heading into the third period it appeared the Ice Dogs might face the same fate as the night before against Stockton when they lost in a shootout after blowing a 3-0 lead in the game. However, Christian Larrivee scored a shorthanded goal at 12:50 with an assist to Mike Woodford that gave the Ice Dogs the 3-2 lead they would hold until the final buzzer sounded.

Zach Sikich made his first start for the Ice Dogs, making 18 saves in the win while Tyler Weiman took the loss for San Diego with 30 saves. Neither team scored on the power play with the Ice Dogs going 0-6 and the Gulls going 0-5.

The Ice Dogs face another division rival again tomorrow when they take on the Bakersfield Condors at 5 pm. Fans who stick around after the game can meet their favorite player at the team autograph session in the atrium. For more information, call (562) ICE-DOGS for visit www.icedogs.com.
