Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release
LONG BEACH, Calif. â Long Beach Ice Dogs President Paul Solby will be announcing along with Meals on Wheels (MOW), that the two organizations have entered a partnership agreement. The Ice Dogs have adopted MOW and will be making an initial contribution of $2,500.
Team efforts will be made by both agencies to generate more volunteers for the MOW homebound program and to increase the number of clients currently being served by MOW. The Ice Dogs players will be on hand periodically to work in the downtown kitchen, and to deliver meals from each of the four satellites. The program is not federally funded.
The Ice Dogs and MOW are planning joint fund-raisers and other combined activities to help augment the level of financial support from the community-at-large and to increase visibility in the Long Beach/Signal Hill area.
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit volunteer community service for persons unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves because of disability, age, or chronic/temporary illness, thus assisting them to remain nourished in their own homes. Established in March 1971, MOW provides home delivery of two dietetically balanced meals per day and is available to all Long Beach residents, regardless of age or economic status. MOW offers a five-week cycle of menus planned by a committee of registered dietitians.
The Ice Dogs', who reached the playoffs the past six years, home opener is Saturday, Oct. 26, against the Gulls at 7 p.m. at the Long Beach Arena. Single game tickets for opening night, and the rest of the Ice Dogs' 36-game schedule, are currently on sale at the Long Beach Arena, at all Ticketmaster outlets and online at www.IceDogs.com.
