Hustle Snap Losing Streak against Bighorns

The Memphis Hustle snapped its five-game losing streak with a 112-110 win over the Reno Bighorns Saturday at Landers Center. The game was a back-and-forth contest that featured 20 lead changes and 16 ties. Neither team led by more than seven points.

Marquis Teague provided more late game heroics and knocked down two free throws with 3.1 seconds to take the lead before Reno fell short on its final possession. Reno was threatening to pull away in the fourth quarter, taking a 101-95 lead with 7:36 remaining. However, a 10-2 Hustle run over the next 3:04 helped Memphis retake the lead.

All five Hustle starters reached 14 points or more, led by Teague's 24 points (11-19 FG), nine assists and five rebounds. Omari Johnson (19 points, 11 rebounds) posted his fifth double-double of the season and is averaging 20.8 points per game over his last six games. Jeremy Morgan had an efficient 19 points (8-12 FG) to go with seven rebounds. Austin Nichols tallied 17 points (8-11 FG) and eight rebounds. Dusty Hannahs had 14 point, four rebounds and four assists. J.J. Frazier had season highs of 10 points and five rebounds.

Reno's frontcourt duo of Jack Cooley and Jakarr Sampson had a dominant afternoon, combining for 56 points on 23-of-42 shooting. Cooley tied Sampson with a game-high 28 points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds. Sampson had 28 points of his own to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots. Marcus Williams poured in 16 points to go with a game-high tying nine assists. Josh Hagins (11 points) scored in double figures off the bench.

The Hustle earned the win despite Reno's domination inside. The Bighorns outscored the Hustle 60-32 in the paint and owned a 16-6 edge on the offensive glass. However, the Hustle were more efficient from the field, knocking down the same amount of shots (44) on 15 less attempts (105-90).

The Hustle will hit the road for a three-game stretch, starting with its second matchup against the South Bay Lakers on Wednesday, February 28 at 9 p.m. CT. The Hustle's next home game takes place on Saturday, March 10 at noon against the Santa Cruz Warriors. Tickets are still available and start for as low as $10.
