Huskies Dominate Loggers to Take Two Game Series
June 11, 2023 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Duluth Huskies News Release
The Huskies jumped ahead and never looked back on a short game Sunday afternoon to win 8-2 over the La Crosse Loggers to complete the two game sweep.
The party started early for Duluth, with a couple singles to load up the base paths in the 1st. Joshua Duarte scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch to put the Huskies up, Lucas Kelly added another RBI on a single, and Brandon Compton would score off of a sacrifice fly from Brylan West, and Duluth went up 3-0 early.
Starting pitcher Alex Potter got into the only trouble he would see during the big win in the 2nd, as Jordan Donahue knocked in a run off a single to load up the bases. Potter would get out of it after that, allowing the only earned run he gave up all day in that inning.
The Huskies continued to pile on, scoring 2 runs in both the 3rd and the 5th. Duarte scored his 2nd run of the day from a sacrifice fly from newcomer Murf Gray, with Brandon Compton hitting his 2nd home run in as many games, with those two runs coming in the 3rd. Michael Gabbard scored on a defensive mishap from the Loggers, while Duarte scored yet another run from the 2nd sacrifice fly of the day from Gray.
Both teams scored a run in the 8th, and the Huskies would roll to their 3rd straight win, winning it 8-2 over La Crosse.
Potter finished going 6 innings allowing only 1 run on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts. Duarte had a hot bat, going 3-3 and scoring 3 runs for the Huskies. Duluth improved to 7-5, continuing to chip into the lead of the Great Plains East Division leader Rochester. Duluth will get a shot at Rochester tomorrow, with first pitch set for 6:35 PM CST.
