Hurricanes Select Pair from Shattuck St. Mary's in US Priority Draft
May 18, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Lethbridge Hurricanes News Release
LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club selected two prospects in the 2022 US Priority Draft selecting goaltender Harrison Boettiger and defenseman Clarke Nehmens.
Boettiger, 14, was selected fourth overall by the Hurricanes. The goaltender from Wheatridge, Colorado spent the 2021- 2022 season with Shattuck St. Mary's 14U AAA club. Appearing in 26 games, the 6'0, 150-pound netminder posted a perfect 24-0-0 record with a 1.12 goals against average and a .948 save percentage.
"It is an honour to be drafted by the Hurricanes fourth overall," said Boettiger. "I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Lethbridge family and making a run at the Memorial Cup in 2026."
Nehmens, 14, was picked at 41st overall by the 'Canes. The product of Chino Hills, California appeared in 51 games during the 2021-2022 season with Shattuck St. Mary's 14U AAA club totaling 44 points (12g-32a) along with 15 penalty minutes. The 5'10, 165-pound right-shot defenseman totaled 21 points (14g-7a) with 34 penalty minutes in 35 games with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 13U AAA in 2020-2021.
"We believe we've added two really talented players to our group today," said Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt.
"We've heard really good things about Boettinger from scouts and goalie coaches that we've talked to and are excited to add him to our group. With Nehmens, we like his ability and think there is some upside while he already has a good frame. We are excited to add both to our organization and are excited to see them develop," added Anholt.
The 2022 WHL Prospects Draft takes place on Thursday beginning at 10:00am and can be followed along at www.whl.ca/draft.
