This is the 16th season for the Dynamo in Major League Soccer and the first following the shift in philosophy and vision announced last fall. The team returns under the leadership of head coach Tab Ramos, his second year on the touchline for Houston. Ramos will be joined by assistant coach Omid Namazi and Martin Vasquez, who joined the club in the offseason after stints with the U.S. Men's National Team and Bayern Munich.
The offseason saw the arrival of eight new players to the Dynamo who finished as one of the most offensive teams in 2020. Houston created the third most chances from open play in the league with 219 last season and finished with the second most chances created in the Western Conference according to Opta.
The Dynamo targeted speed, experience and youth this offseason as they acquired Fafa Picault, a four-year MLS veteran, and used General Allocation Money to trade for veteran defender Tim Parker. The Dynamo also added depth to the midfield with the addition of LigaMX veteran Joe Corona and former U.S. youth international Derrick Jones.
The Dynamo opened the 2020 MLS season with a 1-1 draw with the LA Galaxy in front of a sold-out crowd at BBVA Stadium. Houston have gone 8-2-5 in home openers and are 6-1-2 in home openers at BBVA Stadium.
