San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes today announced that the club will host FC Dallas in their 2021 home opener on Saturday, April 24. The match will kick off at 12:30 p.m. PT and will air nationally on Univision, TUDN and Twitter. It is expected to be the first professional sporting event in Santa Clara County with fans in attendance since March 2020.
Last week , the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced fans would be allowed to attend outdoor sporting events beginning April 1. In the most restrictive purple tier, capacity will be limited to 100 people and attendance will be limited to regional visitors. Capacity will be limited to 20% in the red tier, 33% in the orange tier, and 67% in the least-restrictive yellow tier. Attendance at outdoor sporting events will be limited to in-state visitors, regardless of tier.
More information regarding ticketing will be announced soon as plans are being finalized with Major League Soccer and both state and county health officials. Season Ticket Holders who rolled over from 2020 to 2021 will have priority for tickets, followed by new Season Ticket Holders.
The Quakes open the regular season on Friday, April 16 at Houston Dynamo FC in the first overall match of the 2021 MLS season. It marks just the second time that San Jose will open the regular season on the road since 2008 (at FC Dallas, 2015).
San Jose will also be expansion club Austin FC's first-ever opponent at Q2 Stadium, which is currently under construction, on Saturday, June 19. The nationally televised match will kick off at 6 p.m. PT on UniMas, TUDN and Twitter.
All nationally televised matches not aired by an English-language network will be streamed live in English on Twitter.
The Earthquakes' full 2021 schedule and broadcast information will be announced later.
