Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Bowling Green Hot Rods got out to a 3-0 lead before the Lakewood BlueClaws tied things up, however, the Hot Rods pulled away in a 7-4 win on Tuesday night.
The Hot Rods (12-6) got out to a three run advantage early in the ballgame off of starter Heitor Correa in the early-going. To begin the ballgame, Correa loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit as he allowed a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. The first hit of the ballgame came off the bat the fourth hitter Isaias Velasquez as he hit a double to the left side, scoring two. The Hot Rods added a run in the third and took a 3-0 advantage to the bottom of that inning.
At that point, the BlueClaws (10-9) began a mini-comeback with a three run inning and the damage was all done with two outs and no one on base. Harold Garcia started the hitting with a single, followed by a single by Anthony Gose. Then, the BlueClaws used back-to-back doubles by Travis d'Arnaud and Jim Murphy to get three runs in and tie the ballgame at three.
After tying the game, the teams went scoreless in the fourth before the Hot Rods had a big fifth inning. With a runner on, Mike Sheridan sent a majestic fly deep over the wall in right field for a two-run home run. Correa then worked two outs before allowing a double and being lifted in favor of Freddy Ballestas. Ballestas allowed the runner to score and the Hot Rods took a 6-3 lead.
Off of Ballestas, the Hot Rods got another run in the sixth and at 7-3 a triple by Anthony Gose with a runner on made it 7-4.
Correa (6-3) ended the game with his third loss of the season, he went 4.2 innings and allowed six hits and six runs while walking five. Ballestas then worked 1.1 innings and allowed a run before Jacob Diekman pitched two scoreless innings. Jared Simon was in a familiar situation working the ninth
Matt Moore (6-3) got the win as he worked five innings and allowed three runs. Moore struck out eight batters and walked just one.
The BlueClaws have failed in their fifth straight attempt to reach 19 games above the .500 mark.
The four-game series will continue on Wednesday in an 11:05 am game with the Hot Rods. The BlueClaws will look to regain the lead in the series behind the right arm of Trevor May (1-1) and he will be opposed by Shane Dwyer (1-7).
