Lexington Legends News Release
Ronnie Welty's three-run homer in the seventh inning capped a four-run rally as the Delmarva Shorebirds pulled away to beat the Lexington Legends 7-3 Monday night.
The Legends missed a scoring opportunity in the top of the first when they failed to score after loading the bases with one out. Delmarva then scored three in the bottom of the first. A walk to Xavier Avery, a single by Greg Miclat and a double by Joe Mahoney brought home the first run of the game. Welty struck out, but Tyler Kolodny singled to score Miclat to make the score 2-0. L. J. Hoes' grounder to second scored Mahoney with the third run of the inning.
The Legends cut it to one in the seventh. With two outs and the bases empty, Andy Simunic singled and Reinaldo Pestana walked. Jay Austin then doubled to center field, scoring both Simunic and Pestana.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Shorebirds had scored once on a sacrifice fly by Miclat, and had two on and two out when Welty hit the first pitch from reliever Henry Villar over the fence in left field to give Delmarva a 7-2 lead.
The Legends came back with one in the ninth on Steve Brown's double, a wild pitch and a single by Simunic.
Delmarva starter Cole McCurry (4-7) got the win. Brad Dydalewicz (5-4) pitched the first four innings and took the loss. The teams will meet again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
