Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

AMARILLO - Josh Rojas hit two home runs while Bryan Abreu and Cristian Javier teamed to hold the Sod Poodles to four hits as Corpus Christi notched a 6-1 victory Tuesday night before 5,104 fans at Hodgetown.

The Hooks (23-21), who secured the series win over Amarillo (19-24), have won nine of their last 13 games, staying within a half-game of first-place Frisco in the Texas League South first-half race.

Abreu (2-1) had retired 10 of 11 hitters before yielding a wind-aided fly ball double to Hudson Potts to begin the fifth. It marked the first Sod Poodle hit, snapping a stretch of nine consecutive no-hit frames by the reigning Texas League Pitcher of the Week.

Webster Rivas plated Potts with a two-bagger down the left-field line for the lone Amarillo marker.

Abreu fanned seven and walked two, throwing 51 of 78 pitches for strikes.

Javier picked up his first Double-A save after stranding three over the final four innings.

Rojas' first dinger of the night was a scorched line drive that landed on the right-field berm with two outs in the fourth. The solo blast off Lake Bachar put Corpus Christi on the board.

The Hooks added a pair in the fifth thanks to a pair of two-out hits - an Abraham Toro single and a Seth Beer double, bringing in Chuckie Robinson and Anibal Sierra.

Rojas made it 4-1 with a lead-off shot in the sixth off Kazuhisa Makita, rendering his second career multi-home run performance.

Stephen Wrenn went yard for the first time in 2019, taking Michel Baez deep to begin the seventh.

Toro led the 14-hit parade with four knocks, including an RBI single in the ninth. Thus far on the road trip, the switch-hitting third baseman is 11-for-18 (.611) with a home run and five RBIs.

Rojas boasts eight hits in his last 13 at-bats, including a double and the two homers.

Corpus Christi shoots for the series sweep Wednesday morning with lefty Brett Adcock on the hill. Amarillo counters with southpaw Adrian Morejon. First pitch 11:05.
