CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks closed out the season's first half with a 7-1 win Monday over the Arkansas Travelers at Whataburger Field behind 5.0 scoreless innings from Brandon Bailey.

Bailey (W, 1-2) tied a career-high with eight strikeouts while allowing just two hits and a walk against the Texas League-leading Travelers. Between the third and fifth innings, he retired seven straight, including six punchouts.

The 24-year-old hasn't allowed a run over his last three appearances (2 starts), spanning 12.2 innings with 16 strikeouts and just seven hits and two walks allowed.

Abraham Toro provided the first two runs of the game for the Hooks with an RBI single in the first and a run-scoring double in the third. Seth Beer plated Toro with a single in the third for a 3-0 lead against the league's ERA leader Nabil Crismatt (L, 2-5).

Collin McHugh, on a Major League rehab assignment from Houston, entered in the sixth inning. He gave up a run but stranded two runners after striking out back-to-back batters to end the frame and keep the score at 3-1.

McHugh, pitching for the Hooks for the first time since 2017, went 1.1 innings allowing two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The Hooks got insurance in the eighth via a two-run homer from Osvaldo Duarte (8).

Bryan De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a pair of runs out of the leadoff spot for the Hooks. Toro, starting to heat back up, was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Donnie Walton led the Travelers with three singles and a walk.

Tuesday's 6:15 p.m. game marks a clean slate for the Hooks and the rest of the league as the second half begins. A duel of top prospects is slated as J.B. Bukauskas (0-3, 5.65) will go for Corpus Christi against southpaw Justus Sheffield (0-0, 0.00).
