Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks couldn't overcome an early deficit despite a valiant attempt to Thursday at Whataburger Field, falling to the Amarillo Sod Poodles 11-8.

Amarillo mounted a healthy 8-0 lead by the second inning behind a two-run homer and a bases-clearing triple by Mikey Reynolds, who did his damage in consecutive innings. Stone Garrett added a two-run blast. Hooks starter Brett Daniels (L, 0-1) was roughed up for seven runs on five hits and two walks in 1.1 innings.

The Hooks got three back in the fourth, including a two-run Scott Manea double. But the Soddies scored a run in three straight frames to open up an 11-3 advantage.

Yet the Hooks didn't stop fighting as Marty Costes, J.J. Matijevic and Corey Julks all went deep off Justin Lewis to draw it within three. But Matt Gage was able to shut down the Hooks in the final 2.0 stanzas.

Matijevic has now gone yard in three straight games, while Julks went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Reynolds fell a double short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with five RBIs.

Cesar Rosado (0-2, 10.13) gets the start Friday as the team takes the field as the Corpus Christi Blue Ghosts. The 7:05 p.m. start is followed by Bud Light Friday Fireworks.
