Honkers Fall to Rox in the Ninth Inning

(Rochester, Minn.) - The Rochester Honkers fell to the St. Cloud Rox 10-9 on a walk off hit by Brendan Illies (University of North Carolina) Saturday night.

The Rox scored four runs in the first four innings of play, but the Honkers were able to tie the game by scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Houston Glad (NE Oklahoma JC) hit a 2-RBI single to cut the Rox lead in half, and in the sixth, Keaton Weisz (Auburn) was able to steal third and score on an error by the Rox's catcher. With Bryce Marquardt (Bethel) standing on second base, Brett Harrison (North Dakota) hit a single and score Marquardt to tie the game at four.

The Rox came back in the bottom of the seventh and scored four runs. Illies had the big single in the seventh that scored Brett Pope (Western Carolina University) and Mark Skonieczny (University of Illinois), pushing the Rox's lead to 8-4.

The Honkers came back and scored five runs of their own in the eighth inning. Joey Czarske (Cal State Northridge) and Christopher Scalisi (Redlands) had RBI singles to cut the Rox lead down to 8-6.

Then, Czarske and Jackson Thoreson (St. Mary's) were able to come home and score on an error. Houston Glad (NE Oklahoma JC) scored on a wild pitch to give the Honkers a 9-8 lead.

Luke Ringhofer (South Dakota State) scored on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 9 in the bottom of the eighth. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Illies hit a single to left to win the game for the Rox.

David Worrell (Corpus Christi) got the start for the Honkers,; he went three innings, allowed four hits, three runs and struck out two. Jackson Rose got the lose, he threw one inning and allow two runs, none of which were earned.

Logan Salow (University of Kentucky) got the start for the Rox; he pitched six innings, allowed five hits, four runs, three of which are earned and struck out five. Andrew Burnick (University of Pennslyvania) got the win for the Rox.

Illies went 3 for 5 with three RBI to lead the Rox's offense, while Harrison with one RBI and scored a run to lead the Honkers.
